I have heard people say that the cross of Jesus Christ is the greatest love story ever told. I finally understand why. It’s because of the ultimate sacrifice that God was willing to pay for us. It’s so easy to sacrifice something if the person is going to appreciate it. But it’s a lot harder to do that when the person on the other side doesn’t appreciate it. While we were sinners Christ died for you and me (Romans 5:8). When the fall of Adam and Eve happened (Genesis 3), God could have decided to give up on us but He didn’t! He gave us a second chance but it was costly. Through one man’s decision, sin entered the world but through another man’s righteousness there was life (Romans 5:18).
The fact that God sent his son down on this Earth to die not just for his disciples, for the people that loved Jesus, the people that received miracles. Jesus also died for those that have never heard of him, he died for the Pharisees, died for Pilot, died for the people who exchanged him for Barabbas, died for Judas who betrayed him, the people that mocked him, spat on him, the people that made the decision to reject him. Jesus died for every single one of us on this Earth! People might say that, “I didn’t ask for Jesus to die for me” but that is what unconditional love is! Whether you wanted it or not, you received it.
Jesus made an example of not only loving the people that love us, but also loving our enemies to his disciples. He described how the Father allows the sun to rise on those that are evil and good, and sends rain to those that are righteous and unrighteous (Matthews 5:45) That statement alone paints a picture of the grace of God that flows from Him and is poured over all of us!
God came down in the flesh, through his son Jesus and walked on the very Earth that He created. This shows how personal He was willing to get with us. He didn’t create us and left us to our demise, He created us with the intent of forming a relationship with His creation. When Jesus ministered to people and became the friends of sinners, healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, defended the defenceless, embraced the rejected, clothed those who had nothing, gave to the poor, stepped into people’s situation. Through his actions, he revealed the heart of our Father in Heaven. That God wasn’t just a God who sat on his throne in heaven and watched (Hebrews 4:15) God’s heart broke when we were broken, wiped our tears while we wept, heard our silent prayers and sympathized with us in a way that we can’t even comprehend.
On the third day our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ rose again on the third day. He overcame death and death lost its sting. When he died and was buried, so was our sin, temptations, addictions, pride, hurt, bitterness, brokenness and everything imaginable. When he was crucified, the veil that separated man from God was torn (Matthews 27:51). We don’t need to go through a prophet to speak on our behalf (Hebrews 10:19-20). We can now come into the presence of the Father, for there is no condemnation for those in Christ (Romans 8:1). It was by God’s grace that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8) and there was nothing that we could do or boast about to show that we earned it (Ephesians 2:9). As he was resurrected and came back to life, so have we! Through the blood of Jesus Christ, old things had passed away and all things have been made new (2 Corinthians 5:17). We have a new identity, a new belonging and new name. When we accepted Christ, we are no longer slaves of sin but of righteousness (Romans 6) Who should we now fear when we are more than conquerors in Christ and can do all things through Him who strengthens us! There is nothing on this Earth that can separate us from the love of the Father!
Romans 8:38-39 says,
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor power, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord”
I was once lost, and now I’m found. Blind and can now see!
Thank you Jesus!
I am not where I am today, if it had not been for the price you paid!
I hope you continually look to the cross not just during the Easter period but every day. Remind yourself of the power of Jesus Christ and reflect on how far your journey with Christ has taken you from where you were before you knew Jesus.
Rest. Don’t Stress. Most of all, remember that you are blessed!
